The BLE (Basic Level Examination) is the first major public examination Nepali students face at Grade 8. Success here builds confidence, and the study habits formed now carry through to SEE and NEB.
What is the BLE?
The BLE is administered by the National Examination Board (NEB) of Nepal and covers five core subjects: Nepali, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Each subject carries 75 marks for the written paper and 25 for internal assessment (in most cases).
Subject-wise Preparation Strategy
Nepali (नेपाली)
Focus on कविता व्याख्या (poetry explanation), निबन्ध (essay), and पत्र लेखन (letter writing). Memorise the key poems from the prescribed textbook and practice summarising them in your own words.
English
Grammar (tenses, prepositions, articles) accounts for 40% of the marks. Practice reading comprehension passages daily, and study letter writing and essay formats specific to the CDC curriculum.
Mathematics
BLE Math focuses on arithmetic, basic algebra, geometry, and statistics. Solve each chapter's exercise problems twice — once when you first study it, and again a week later. Speed and accuracy matter in the exam hall.
Science
For BLE Science, emphasise diagrams (label them correctly), chemical equations (basic ones only), and definitions. The examiner rewards precise scientific language.
Two Weeks Before the Exam
Use the last two weeks for intensive revision. Solve the previous two years' BLE question papers under timed conditions. Review your weak areas daily. Sleep 8 hours — cognitive performance drops sharply on less than 7 hours.
