English is often the barrier preventing students from achieving a straight 4.0 GPA in SEE. Subjective marking requires strict adherence to format conventions.
1. Free Writing Formats (16 Marks)
Letter to the editor, newspaper reports, dialogue writing, and argumentative essays. Each text type has mandatory layout marks:
- Letters: Sender address, date, receiver designation, subject line, and formal sign-off.
- Newspaper Reports: Catchy headline, byline, place and date lead, and inverted-pyramid paragraph structure.
2. Grammatical Transformations
Voice changes, reported speech with contextual reporting verbs, and conditional clause completions carry 1 mark each with zero partial credit. Train with active recall drills on irregular verb forms and question tag exceptions.
